Chinese mythical animal; Morgan Wiese

Chinese Mythical Animal

Western Jin Dynasty: 265 - 316 AD
North China
Constructed from Eartenware & pigment

This was my favourite piece in the National Gallery! He's pretty cool huh? ;D
These figurines were placed in tombs as substitutes of real or mythical animals to serve the deceased in the afterlife.
They were painted with bright colours after firing, but most colourings have faded completely with only white slips remain.

This is probably one of my favourite paintings ever, I certainly didn't expect to see it when we went through the gallery.
The photo is far away because there was a security guard stalking me for taking photos of paintings >.> So I pretended to text and took a photo ;D
